GLASGOW: Pakistan judoka Shah Hussain Shah earned the country’s first medal at the Commonwealth Games despite losing the -100kg category final to Scotland’s Euan Burton.
Shah’s silver on Saturday was Pakistan’s first medal at the Glasgow games as he was undone by the 35-year-old Burton. Burton threw Shah before holding him down to submission in a perfectly-calculated fight.
“Not too shabby for a 35-year-old,” said Burton. “I’ve been nervous all day. It’s more of a relief.”
On the final day of judo, Scotland took another two golds thanks to Royal Marine Christopher Sherrington in the +100kg and Sarah Adlington in the women’s +78kg.
Burton’s wife Gemma Gibbons, who represents England, was a silver medallist in the women’s -78kg.
