If it isn’t a dream come true – for Alia Bhatt, of course.

The young actress has rapidly risen to fame with her acting prowess and has already bagged a film alongside Bollywood heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor.

The announcement came on Tuesday, with filmmaker Karan Johan breaking the news on twitter.

Ranbir, who turns 32 in September, and 21-year-old Alia are slated to pair up in Ayan Mukerji's next venture for Dharma Productions.

Ranbir has worked with Ayan (who is also a friend) earlier in Wake up Sid and Yeh Jawani Hai Dewani (which we loved!).

While it’s going to be Ayan’s first project with Alia, Ayan’s past hits give us hope that the pairing will be a smashing hit.

While the plot has not yet been announced, there are rumours that Ranbir will be playing a super-hero. If there’s any truth to that, what better casting choice than Alia – with her innocent, girl-next-door appeal and stellar acting skills?

"I am excited to play the role of a superhero, but when we talk of superheroes, we just have one image — Spider-Man or Superman. But he [Ayan] isn’t writing a film along those lines. I think it’s a fantasy-based film, a mythological (based) in contemporary times. And it will have a boy who will have some form of superpowers. But right now, it’s too early to talk about it," a report in Hindustan Times quoted Ranbir as saying.

Another report stated that Ranbir had recommended the young actress for Window Seat. But apparently Imtiaz Ali found Alia "too young" for the role. It was in fact Ranbir who had insisted that Imtiaz cast Alia in Highway.

“Ranbir insisted that I should meet Alia once — not for any particular project but generally. And, since I trust his vision of cinema, I listened to him,” he said in an interview with Hindustan Times.

Alia has a series of hits to her credit, including Imtiaz Ali's Highway and 2 States that entered the famed “100 crore club”. Her latest release Humpty Sharma ki Dulhaniya is also expected to have decent success at the box office.

During the promotion of her acting debut Student of the Year, the rising star confessed that she has a crush on Ranbir (who doesn’t!?)

"I have always loved Ranbir and I love him even more after Barfi!. He is my biggest crush and he will always remain my biggest crush,” she said.

Indian film critic Taran Adarsh welcomed the news of the Ranbir-Alia pairing on Twitter.
