When it comes to leading ladies, Pakistan's exports to Bollywood have yet to create major waves.

While Meera, Veena and Sarah Loren failed to gain critical acclaim, we have our hopes pinned on award-winning Humaima Malik as she steps into B-town next to Emran Hashmi in her upcoming film Raja Natwarlal.

With the the recent launch of Zee Network's new entertainment channel 'Zindagi', which shows Pakistan television dramas to Indian viewers for the first time, the possibility of our talented actors catching the eye of Bollywood movers and shakers is higher than ever before.

While a number of sites have worked on their own lists, below are our top five picks of Pakistani actors ready for Bollywood roles.

Mehwish Hayat

Mehwish is beautiful and exceptionally talented. Not only is she a great actress who has played diverse roles, she can shake a leg like no other. With her upcoming item number in Pakistani film Na Maloom Afraad, actor-model-singer Mehwish Hayat is likely to make waves in Bollywood.

Fun fact: In 2008, Hayat won ninth place in sexiest Asian Women in the world in a ranking that included the likes of Priyanka Chopra and Katrina Kaif.

Mahira Khan

Pakistan television's darling Mahira started out as a VJ and made her film debut with Shoaib Mansoor's Bol. The cherub-faced Scarlett Johannson doppelganger is loved for her infectious personality and best known for her role as Khirad in Hum TV's widely successful Humsafar.

Can we see her in Bollywood films? Absolutely.

Mahira has all the makings of a Yash Raj heroine - and boy, can she dance!

Iman Ali

A few years ago, there wasn't a magazine or product that didn't have Iman Ali's sultry face endorsing it. The actress has proved her mettle as a talented actress and graceful dancer (throwback: Supreme Ishq), and was most recently seen in a supporting role in Bol. We weren't quite impressed with her performance in Khuda Ke Liye, but we're guessing the British accent demanded by her character Mary is to blame.

Ali is probably already on the Bollywood radar considering she is dating famed Indian film-maker Imtiaz Ali (maker of Rockstar and most recently Highway) and hobnobbing with B-Town A-listers like Ranbir Kapoor.

Sanam Saeed

We loved her in theater productions and we love her on television.Talented actress and model Sanam Saeed made her screen debut in Mehreen Jabbar's serial Daam. She has since played many unconventional characters and has startled audience and critics alike.

We can't imagine why Bollywood wouldn't nab an actor of her stature - she's gracefully slender and is oozing talent.

Aamina Sheikh

Does it get better than Aamina Sheikh's heart-breaking performance in Seedlings? She is a brilliant actor who has proved her mettle on TV and the silver screen. Aamina started with Barish Mein Dewaar, a telefilm aired in 2008, and has gone on to become a favourite of fashion designers for red carpet looks as well as big brands like Lux.

Her debut film Seedlings brought her international recognition for which she won two awards – the New York Film Festival Award and SAARC Film Festival Award.

The dusky beauty is definitely one to cast in a Bollywood film where the lead female role demands a versatile, confident actor.

I am happy that the Indian viewers will get to see some quality dramas. I have watched scores of Pakistani plays and enjoyed them. In comparison the Indian TV has been more populist, shallow and filled with unnecessary conspiracies and scheming. The new channel will, hopefully give a lot of visibility to Pakistani artists and create their fan following. I wish them good luck and hope to see up-liftment of the Indian standards too. Undoubtedly there will be mixed caste plays from both countries and will create goodwill on both sides..

Many self respecting people and film makers in the country must be feeling rather ashamed. Instead of exporting quality films based on stories about a superior culture and history that should make civilized Pakistanis proud, film makers are exporting their pretty actresses to India for fame and fortunes. Shouldn't Pakistani film industry think about its future? I have seen excellent movies produced by Iranian, Turkish and Palestinians here in Montreal. I have not seen a movie made in Pakistan as yet.

@Khan You've no idea how similar the cultures of Pakistan and India are. You'd notice once you step out of Pakistan. Go to any other country except the middle eastern Sheikdoms and you'll definitely be mistaken for an Indian-through your language, colour, dress, cuisines, and horizontal movement of your head when you speak. Here in China, we crave for meeting someone who can speak the same language, be it a Pakistani or an Indian.

Does Bollywood makes any good movies these days? Most of their films are commercial junks targeting intellectually low caliberred audience which Indian subcontinent has in millions. Talent is not required to make those movies.if money and cheap popularity are the only motives then good looking Pakistani model and actors can consider joining Bollywood.

The hypocrisy of the Pakistanis amazes me. One one end they blame India for Kashmir, Balochistan, Arms Race, 1948, 1965, 1971, Kargil, cultural hegemony, demise of their film industry, their lower status in the world because of 'Indian' propaganda, river water sharing, and many other things yet when it comes to films, music, arts their artists are applauded on getting recognition in India. In fact most of the Pakistani artists are known across the world because the came to India. Sports - Pakistanis want to play in India be it cricket, hockey or kabaddi. Medicine - Pakistanis head to India for their medical treatment rather than their 'ummah' country the UAE. Yet, they never stop cursing India. Gazwa e hind proponent Zaid Hamid is on TV almost daily. Not a day passes when there is no anti India demonstration in one or the other city/town of Pakistan. It is high time Pakistanis decided which side they want to be on.

And we must come to terms with the fact that we do share this with not just india, but different ethnic groups as well. Great and beautiful! Considering ferocious competition in Bollywood, I would say it should be an honor for anyone to enter the Indian film industry. During the last few years we have also been hearing some well known names from Hollywood, either acting in Indian movies or making them with Indian actors. And any Bollywood watcher would agree that it has dramatically changed in the last decade, that is towards better!

Little googling tells me that all these pretty ladies are over 30. I believe there are many pretty faces in Pakistan glamour industry. If they come in early 20's they can become stars like Katrina. Mahira is overqualified for TV and underqualified for movies. I hope she acts in couple of movies. Scarlett Johannson thing is so true :-). Sana Saeed is strictly made for TV. I see some silly comments by narrow minded people. Music and films have no boundaries. Bollywood belongs to all in our region who relate with the language and culture. Similarly Hollywood belongs to all who can relate with the language and culture. Its just that Bollywood is driven out of Mumbai. Its a free industry open to all who have talent. There is a Srilankan actress doing well, lot of Nepalis have been very successful, there are Bangladeshis and Afghans working in the industry, Pakistanis have always had a major participation. Lets not forget that most of the Bollywood yesteryear actors like Dilip Kumar, Prithviraj Kapoor, Dev Anand etc all have their roots in what is now Pakistan. Even Sharukh Khan has his roots in Pakistan. Just 67 years of separation does not change the culture.

Many Pakistani friends are saying, Pakistan should focus on home film industry. I totally agree. but big BUT, to come to any closer to Indian film industry, It will take at least 200 years, even Pak starts it very aggressively. I'm not exaggerating! Just google, how big Indian film studios are? e.g. Google for Ramoji Film City a small south indian film studio. Money pored in to this studio is more than state budgets in Pakistan. Many Hollywood movies are made completely in Indian studios (I'm not talking about animation studios -India is pretty much domination in that area). Be realistic, leave hypocrisy and ego aside build relations with Indian film industry and use it for benefit of Pakistan.

I am sure they are all well suitable for the home grown film industry provided there is one. Last I heard, home grown film industry called Lollywood was just about surviving. Pakistanis have no problem watching dubbed versions of Turkish drama that shows scantiliy clad women and men but they have a problem when INDIAN movies are shown in Pakistan or a Pakistani actor decides to try his/ her luck in Bollywood. Talent is like a river that flows freely and cannot be stopped. In India during the initial decades, most of well known southern actresses would come to bollywood and some (Rekha, Vijayayanthi Mala) made a big name. This stopped once the local film industry started to make good movies. Once Pakistan starts making good movies (and stop trying to copy bollywood), it would attract local talent.

It is pathetically amusing to read several comments apparently from Pakistanis that spew sour grapes and venom. Bollywood in recent years has become more international than Hollywood, though not in terms of money, yet. Entertainment business in India is perhaps the biggest in the world. These factors alone are sufficient for any aspiring actor, singer or any other talent whether from Pakistan or from Europe, S. America, US, or from anywhere to try their luck in Bollywood or Bollywood supported activities in Hollywood. Take load off of your heads -- your personal likes and dislikes have not a thing to do with anyone from Pakistan trying their luck in India just like others -- Mehdi Hassan, Ghulam Ali, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and his son, just to mention a few -- did. And on this note I would very much like to see Pakistan film industry too rise to levels higher than amateurish. It is the people of Pakistan who need to cultivate and recognize talents in the country. Thank you!

@dr char We do not want to compete with their industry nor do we want it to be the ''same''. We just want our OWN industry reflective of Pakistan and its mighty 200 million plus population.

@Omar I totally agree with you. I never meant Pak should mimic Indian films but be honest and practical. If your neighbour is driving Ferrari, can you ever feel proud of by cycle you own ? In India each state has separate language and culture but some sates film industries could not survive simply because of they could not compete with the quality of other film industries like Hindi, Telugu, Tamil ... which have better training facilities studios and resources. Indian film industry will lose out if they don,t compete with Hollywood by the time english educated population becomes majority in India, It is as simple as that.
