KARACHI: Form horse Mujahid, who has won many exciting races, met his fate after fracturing his leg in the fourth and last race of the Gymkhana race meeting at Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

Beaten by two length by Cash The Cheque in the last outing on June 28 preceded by three wins in-a-row, six-year-old bay horse Mujahid, who was co-favourite with filly Snow Fairy, was heading for home when he suddenly fell and got his leg fractured with one furlong to go and was destroyed soon after the race. Rider Asad Aksir, who was in the saddle, remained unhurt.

Snow Fairy coasted to a massive nine lengths victory over mare National Queen. Dark bay horse Macho Man settled third, eight-and-a-half lengths behind while chestnut Gold Horse completed the frame further beaten by three-and-a-half lengths among nine starters.

Mujahid’s fate overshadowed the back-to-back double performed by rider Wasim, who stormed a co-favourite and an outsider to victories.

Wasim first piloted home mare Sherzad to two lengths and-a-half victory over co-favourite bay horse Grey Song in the second race and then guided outsider Racing Fire to three-quarter-of-a-length victory over Sher Dil in the next. Public fancy Janisar had to be content with third place ahead of Jal Pari.

Both the winning horses were partnered by trainer Mohyuddin.

At the outset, favourite bay horse Business Man obliged all and sundry while landing his first race in style. He beat Vieto Power as he pleased by 11 lengths. Grey Rose was withdrawn before the race leaving seven horses in fray.
