RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) plans to install solar energy panels at a cost of Rs10 million to keep traffic signals around Army General Headquarters (GHQ) running during electricity loadshedding.

After the launch of Metro Bus Project, traffic mess can be seen on The Mall and Peshawar Road and during loadshedding the situation becomes unmanageable for the traffic wardens.

The military authorities have asked the RCB to try some alternative to the loadshedding to cope with the situation.

The cantonment board official told Dawn that the garrison authorities were of the view that traffic wardens had failed to control the traffic manually during power loadshedding.

After the directives, he said that the RCB had finalised a list of the traffic signals in the Saddar area and decided to install solar panel for each signal at The Mall, Kashmir Road, Bank Road, Benazir Bhutto Road and Punj Sarki.

He said that the RCB decided to install traffic signals at Chungi No. 22 and Tench Bhatta area to control the traffic.

“The area around GHQ, Combined Military Hospital, AFIC and Military Hospital particularly needs special attention of the traffic wardens,” the RCB official said.
