MIRPURKHAS: A suspect allegedly involved in damaging an idol and destroying some religious literature in the Shivji Mandir in Kot Ghulam Mohammad on May 28 was arrested, Mirpurkhas SSP Jam Zafarullah Dharejo told the media on Wednesday.

Speaking at a press conference, the SSP said Lelo Kolhi, son of Roshi Kolhi, was a resident of Oberio Dal village of Kot Ghulam Mohammad taluka.

He recalled that members of the Kolhi and Malhi community had lodged a complaint against unknown suspects after the incident. He said the police reached the suspect by tracking his footprints.

After arresting the suspect, the police interrogated Lelo Kolhi, who confessed to his crime, he said, adding that an FIR under Section 295 of the Pakistan Penal Code was registered against him.

During his six-day police remand, the hammer and iron rod used in the offence was recovered, the SSP said.

On Wednesday, the suspect was produced before a magistrate, who remanded him in judicial custody, he added.
