KARACHI: Pakistan women’s football team star Hajra Khan on Monday accepted an offer to play for Maldives women’s championship winners Sunrise Hotels & Resorts Football Club next season.

Hajra, arguably the best woman player in Pakistan, was on the radar of two Maldives-based sides, but eventually ended up signing for SHR WFC.

“It is a feeling unlike any other. Two Maldivian clubs wanted me to play for them at the Maldivian National Football Championship but SHR WFC made the final call,” Hajra was quoted as saying in an exclusive interview with FootballPakistan.com.

“To be the first female from Pakistan to have been offered such an opportunity is something to be really proud of.

“SHR WFC of the Maldives has also called a couple of players from Sri Lanka that I know quite well. I’m sure we’ll make a good team which will hopefully result in a positive outcome.

“I believe it’s a sign of progression for women’s football in Pakistan however stagnant it may be,” she said.
