Non-bailable arrest warrants issued against Gilani, Amin Faheem

KARACHI: An anti-corruption court in Karachi on Thursday issued non-bailable arrest warrants for former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and senior Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Makhdoom Amin Faheem, DawnNews reported.

The warrants against the two were issued in a case relating to financial irregularities in the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP).

Subsequently, the court adjourned the hearing to June 17.

The case in this regard had been registered by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) when Faheem was the commerce minister.

Also, the court had previously issued three notices to Gilani and Faheem, requiring them to appear before it.

The notices went ignored after which a bailable arrest warrants was issued against both leaders. Today, however, the court issued non-bailable warrants and adjourned the hearing to June 17.

They will soon be cleared of all charges. This "Circus of Justice" must stop. We are spending billions on this so-called judicial system which can't deliver. We love to watch "media trials" and are happy with that.

Some who does not appears in Court on Court orders then just Imagine who is the law makers. 3 4 5 6 7 order will come and goes by but there is no one sent behind the bars. Against 1 year boy a FIR can be registered and he can visit the court for thumb impression.

I had an image Amin Faheem is a honest man. @Ajamal well said. The "Circus of Justice" must stop. Billions belonging to the poor people of Pakistan is being used on the failed system. We need a change it is already too much.

Nothing will come out of this arrest warrant, cause politicans hands are bigger then the law and therefore they can't be arrested, only Army can arrest them but police can't cause the police is working under them and are easily bought by politicans, so next joke please heard of this a million times.

Let us hope, pray and see if the justice is done. But then so far omens do not look good - I mean Zardari sahib got scot free the other day even with the evidence which was there for all to see in the shape of an air conditioned horse stable in Prime Minister House, when people of Pakistan were starved of electricity. I hope one day justice will be done when these so called leaders are punished and paraded on donkies with faces blackened for ever and garlanded with tired old boots....one day justice will be done we pray.

People of Pakistan shouldn't keep their hopes up because, our justice system is very unique in the world it doesn't provide results of justice. In fact, this is just a political drama to teach our children how to become a corrupt person in Pakistani society and get away with it. It the king of corruption Zardari can get away with it then Gelani and fahim are just small potatoes in the corruption field.

@Ali Nothing to do with the Judicial System. If nobody approaches the justice system justice do not come after you unless you have a case to answer. Is it not the rule that none is above the law ? They can go and answer the legitimate questions. If they are innocent the court can not do any thing. Stop blaming the Courts.

Both these men are guilty of deep corruption, and Amin Faheem is a notorious Sindhi vedera who keeps his sisters imprisoned on his family estate so they don't marry and pass on the family lands to their potential husbands. Faheem is very clever at hiding behind his Sindhi PPP party, while he engages in multi affairs with females in their early 20's. He's not what he appears from the outside, he's all that's wrong with men in Pakistani society.

The judiciary has been spineless since the retirement of Iftekhar Chaudhry. The current CJ Tasadduq Jilani has lost all the momentum that had been acquired. Gone are the days when the serving PM Geelani was brought down and the public shaker Tahir Qadri was cut down to a spectator inside the SC chamber. It is high time at least ONE big whig actually gets jailtime and is stripped of assets to get the ball rolling.

In past having seen the end of judges and lawyers prosecuting such powerful high profile elites I could only pray for the security of the judge issuing non-bailable warrants in above case.

There was a time when Police in Pakistan had some guts. I remember SSP Lahore named Mohammad Sharif Cheema, Lahore was pretty much crime free during his time. Then there was DSP Abdul Ahad who register the FIR in which Bhutto was nominated (which eventually lead to his hanging) as even when Bhutto was in power. Sadly after a few months DSP abdul Ahad was found dead one morning and his death was ruled natural. You know why these criminals are set free by the courts because the judges are scared for their lives. The witnesses are scared and the same goes for the police. I challenge the top cop in the country Ch Nisar to have this order implemented. I also challenge Dawn to print this. I am sure they are afraid too.

I am not sure if these people deserve this treatment. I am however sure about the money that Amin Fahim returned because it was "inadvertently" transferred to his account!. Perhaps an even more criminal activity during PPP government was the fact that the daughter of Mr. Amin Fahim was appointed as a diplomat to the Irish embassy. She had no previous experience of the diplomatic service. No one has questioned that appointment and it looks like this circus will not stop unless and until we do everything on merit basis and with transparency. Can PPP and PMLN not agree to do that?.

I agree politicians are shameless - but I believe with what has happened in his life, Gilani has and is continuing to pay for his deeds. Whether he serves any time in jail, I think he is carrying on with his sentence already!
