PESHAWAR: A local Awami National Party (ANP) leader was killed by unknown persons in Peshawar's Kohati area on Tuesday, DawnNews reported

According to the police, former Union counsellor Anwarul Haq was present at his shop when unknown persons opened fire on him. He died on the spot.

The slain ANP leader was a member of ANP's district organising committee in Peshawar.

Police started an investigation into the incident.

Following the incident, ANP workers blocked Peshawar’s G.T road for all forms of traffic.

ANP leader Mian Iftikhar Hussain, including other party members, also participated in the demonstration.

The protesters carried black flags and shouted slogans against the provincial government while demanding the immediate arrest of Haq's assailants.
