QUETTA: The wife of Zahid Baloch, the chairman of the banned Baloch Students Organisation-Azad (BSO-A), has announced that a petition will be filed in the Balochistan High Court against officials of the Satellite Town police station for their refusal to file an FIR against Frontier Corps personnel in the case involving alleged kidnapping of her husband.

Addressing a press conference at the Quetta Press Club on Wednesday, she alleged that Mr Baloch was picked up by officials of the intelligence agencies, who were assisted by Frontier Corps men, in the Satellite Town area in the presence of several people including senior vice-chairperson of the BSO-A.

She said that Mr Baloch was in Quetta on March 18 when intelligence personnel forcibly took him away. “Initially we thought that after interrogation they (intelligence personnel) will release him or produce him before a court but 45 days have passed and we still do not know about his whereabouts,” she remarked.

She said that “extra-constitutional” detention of Mr Baloch was a serious violation of the law. “We went to the Satellite Town police station for filing an FIR against the Frontier Corps (personnel) but police officials insisted that we should write an application that plainclothes people kidnapped him.

“We acted upon their advice but they still refused to register the FIR. Now we have decided to approach the court against the police officials for their refusal to register the FIR against the nominated people.”

She appealed to the United Nations, Amnesty International and other human rights organisations to take notice of the excesses committed against the Baloch leader.

QUETTA LAWYERS: The Balochistan Bar Association (BBA) called off courts’ boycott on Wednesday after both police and lawyers excused each other for a recent clash between them, and agreed to maintain amicable relations.

A police delegation led by DIG Mobeen Ahmed visited the bar room and apologised to Qasim Achakzai, a lawyer who was injured in the clash.

Later, a lawyers’ delegation led by BBA president Bilal Anwar Kasi went to the house of policeman wounded in the incident and apologised to him.
