LANDI KOTAL: The political administration in Landi Kotal on Thursday detained two extortionists from a checkpost near Torkham border.

Officials said that they had received public complaints about a group impersonating as khasadar personnel, demanding illegal money from transporters at the Michni checkpost.

Assistant Political Agent Tayyab Abdullah conducted a surprise raid at the checkpost and arrested eight persons allegedly involved in extorting money from transporters.

Six of the arrested men were later released after initial investigations while two were detained at the Landi Kotal for further questioning.

Tayyab Abdullah told Dawn that a detailed inquiry would be conducted to ascertain the presence of irrelevant people at the Michni checkpost. He said he would also try to probe any complicity of the khasadar officials with the arrested men.
