LAHORE: Former Test leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed is most likely to get a post of head coach at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

The post of head coach at the NCA has been lying vacant since former Test fast bowler Aaqib Javed left the job to join the national team of the UAE as head coach around two years back.

As per well-informed sources, the veteran of 52 Tests and 144 ODIs, Mushtaq is most likely to join the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as NCA head coach after the end of his assignment with the English team which may likely to be over after the ongoing World T20 in Bangladesh.

Mushtaq’s appointment is almost certain particularly when Waqar Younis, also a candidate for the said post, has recently joined India’s Bengal Cricket Association as coach for the next three years along with spin wizard Muttiah Muralitharan.

It’s is also instructive to note that the former Test spinner had met PCB officials before leaving for Bangladesh early this month to join England team for his last assignment in the World T20.

“Yes, Mushtaq has offered his services to the Pakistan cricket but it is not decided as yet where his services can be utilised,” said a PCB official on the condition of anonymity.

“Mushtaq has not asked for any particular post in the PCB as he has left it to the PCB to decide about his role since he is ready to work in any capacity,” the official further said.
