LAHORE: The medico-legal examination report of an 18-year-old girl who was found unconscious with a head injury outside a plaza on Gulberg’s Main Boulevard on March 10 night, confirmed sexual assault.

The girl’s mother had got registered a rape case against unknown suspects with the Gulberg police on Tuesday.

Police sources privy to the case investigation told Dawn that the report suggested the girl’s head injury was caused by falling from some height and that she was drunk when admitted to the Jinnah Hospital.

The girl, who was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday evening, proceeded home the same night after recording her statement with the Gulberg police.

The sources said investigations so far established that a young man, identified as Syed Shakeel Kazmi, along with his unknown friend picked the girl from her Begum Kot, Shahdara, residence on Monday.

They reached Latif Centre on the Main Boulevard where the girl and a man went to the plaza’s washrooms while the third man kept waiting for them in the car.

They said as the girl, who was under the influence, came out of the washroom situated at some height from the ground floor, she lost her balance and fell onto the ground from 10-foot high platform. She received head injury and bled from her nose and mouth.

The two suspects initially tried to flee by car, but the plaza watchman stopped and questioned them.

Meanwhile, a witness, Naveed, alerted Rescue 1122 emergency service and an ambulance shifted the girl to the hospital. The suspects initially accompanied the girl, got her admitted to the hospital and skipped after informing her mother about the injury, the sources said.

They said the girl, in her statement, told police that she was picked by Shakeel and his accomplice from her house. The suspects later intoxicated her, she alleged. She claimed that she could remember what happened after that as she was tipsy.

A police investigator said statements of the girl, the watchman and Rescue 1122 officials had been recorded and raids were being conducted for arrest of the two suspects.

He said swabs from the girl had been obtained and were sent to the Punjab Forensic Science Laboratory for analysis.

The investigator said police were also trying to identify the place where the assault took place.

He said it was confirmed the girl visited Dubai at least twice with a ‘cultural troupe’ and had earlier been picked from her home by the suspects a few times.
