Locked up!

Over the years, Android's security system has become quite robust, offering a range of different options such as the basic Slide Lock, the signature Android Pattern Lock, along with the gimmicky but amazingly useful Face Unlock. Besides that, there are also the more reliable and more secure Password and PIN Code locks.

Yet, it is a common occurrence that you have to hand over your phone/tablet to a friend or your kids for some basic tasks, and unlocking the first layer of security measures is essential at that time. The only way to ensure your privacy is to password-protect individual apps.

AppLock

Simply called "AppLock", this aesthetically beautiful app lets you add an extra layer of security by locking individual apps. Along with that, AppLock also allows you to hide particular photos/videos. It is a pretty simple and elegant app, and one of the most efficient and easiest to use to keep prying eyes out of your personal apps.

Along with the usual goodies, there are also some additional security features, such as preventing the removal of this app or even hiding the AppLock icon.

AppLock is available on the Google Play Store for free with three account types:,

1) Premium: paid, premium features, no ads.
2) AD: free, premium features, with ads.
3) Basic: free, no ads, no premium features.

Perfect App Protector

Not the prettiest of apps, but Perfect App Protector is one of the most feature-rich ones available. This app gives the user the ability to set a password or pattern lock to any specific app you choose. Besides that, there is also a whole range of other features:

• Manage screen brightness control for individual apps.
• Enable/Disable screen rotation for individual apps.
• On the 3rd failed password attempt, this app can also automatically take a picture from the front camera.

The list goes on and on! Aptly named, Perfect App Protector is pretty ’perfect’ at its main purpose: protecting an app. You can even enable "Stealth Mode" that hides the app itself from the launcher.

Perfect App Protector is available in both, free and paid versions.

Visidon AppLock:

If you've taken a liking to the facial recognition features offered on Android-based phones, then this app is the one for you. Visidon AppLock stands out due to its ability to provide you with a face-lock technique for individual apps. And just like Android's default face unlock, you can also set a password just in case the camera can't recognise you (bad lighting, makeup etcetera).

Make sure to let the app scan your face from different angles beforehand, so it can easily recognise you in different situations.

Visidon AppLock also has a free as well as a paid version. With the free version, you'll have to deal with ads, and also, a few features like multiple-unlocking methods are exclusive to the paid version.
