QUETTA: Two senior officials of the Balochistan government were kidnapped from the border town of Tump on Thursday evening.

Home Secretary Asadur Rehman Gilani told Dawn that Deputy Commissioner of Kech Abdul Hameed Abro and Assistant Commissioner of Tump Mohammad Hussain Baloch had been kidnapped while they were retuning to Turbat after a monthly meeting with Iranian border officials in Tump.

Sources said that the two officials were returning in a convoy. When they reached a mountainous area near Tump, armed men intercepted the convoy, overpowered Levies personnel escorting the convoy and took the officers away. Later, the Levies personnel were freed.
