KARACHI, Dec 5: Osama Qadri, a former member of the Sindh Assembly and nazim of a Karachi town, mysteriously disappeared on Thursday night from a posh city area.

Mr Qadri belongs to Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) which alleged that he had been kidnapped.

According to MQM spokesperson Wasay Jalil, the former lawmaker was whisked away by a group of people, some of them in plain clothes and others in police uniform, when he came out of a shopping mall near Clifton beach.

But, ASP Clifton Abadit Nisar expressed ignorance about any such incident.

MQM’s Coordination Committee called upon the president, prime minister, interior minister and chief minister and governor of Sindh to take up the matter of what it said Mr Qadri’s kidnapping and ensure his early recovery. The party said in a statement that Mr Qadri, a former nazim of Liaquatabad town, had been kidnapped.

It said Mr Qadri was taken away in a double-cabin Vigo (GS-6707) from outside the shopping mall. The committee condemned the ‘kidnapping’ and termed it a ‘cowardly act’.
