FAISALABAD, Oct 30: An MNA of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz who was booked on Tuesday along with 40 others for subjecting a postal service officer to torture and hurling threats at him, says the case is a result of pointing out “irregularities” in DSPs promotions.

Rail Bazaar police registered a criminal case against PML-N MNA Dr Nisar Jutt on charges of subjecting the Deputy Post Master General of local post office to torture and threatening him with dire consequences.

The accused MNA alleges the case has been registered against him for taking up ‘irregularities’ committed by higher police authorities in promotions of some DSPs with Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

On Oct 7, Deputy Postmaster General Noman Falahudin Wardag was allegedly subjected to torture by the guards of Dr Nisar after the officer had pointed gun at the MNA. Immediately after the incident, the GPO employees went on a strike and staged a protest demonstration against the MNA.

On being informed of the incident, the police officials, including SSP (operations) Ghulam Mubashar Maikan, reached the GPO and held talks with the protesters. After that the employees called off the protest and demanded action against the MNA.

Former RPO Javeed Islam had ordered a probe into the issue as both parties had submitted applications for registration of cases against each other.

On Tuesday, the Rail Bazaar police registered a case against Dr Nisar and 40 others in the light of the inquiry.

Dr Nisar told Dawn on Wednesday he was being punished for complaining to the CM that a police officer “who was also his supporter” had been superseded ‘illegally’ at the behest of a senior police officer whose brother had lost election against him (Dr Nisar) from NA-81 on the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf ticket.

Dr Nisar alleged that a top police officer had warned him of consequences for pointing out the ‘irregularities’.

He said he had recorded his statement with the inquiry officers, but nothing had been done against the accused.

“Everyone knows that a gun had been seized from Mr Wardag and produced before the former RPO, however, no action has been taken against him,” the MNA said.

He said a privilege motion would be submitted in the National Assembly session to be held on Nov 4 regarding the matter and he would apprise the house of the police “wrongdoing”.
