SWABI, Oct 25: Unidentified motorcyclists kidnapped an 11-year-old son of Awami National Party activist and former nazim of Ismaila union council Fareed Khan advocate from his school van at gunpoint when he was on his way to school here on Friday.

Relatives and police said that Zarak Khan, a fifth grade student of a private school in Mardan, was going to school along with 27 other students when four motorcyclists intercepted their van near Ismaila and held the driver and students at gunpoint.

The students said that the gunmen asked the boy to come down from the van, bundled him on the bike and drove away. Zarak’s younger brother Lashkar Khan was also in the same van.

The van driver told the police that he was not in a position to do anything, as the gunmen were ready to open fire.

“When Lashkar was giving details about his brother’s kidnapping he was frightened and disturbed,” said a police official, adding that all other students were also distressed. Police said that it seemed that the boy had been kidnapped for ransom, while his family said that no one had contacted them in this regard so far.

The police, meanwhile, claimed to have blocked all the exit routes, but could not find any clue to the kidnappers. An FIR has been registered against unknown kidnappers in the Kalu Khan police station. —Correspondent
