KARACHI, Oct 2: An anti-terrorism court remanded on Wednesday a man in police custody in a case pertaining to the kidnapping and murder of a 13-year-old schoolgirl.

The student of class-IV was taken away from her school in Federal B. Area on Sept 24 and she was found murdered near the Seaview beach on Sept 26.

The police produced the suspect in court and sought his custody. The suspect informed the court that he provided a SIM (subscriber identity module) card to a detained suspect and also made a ransom call to the family of the victim girl on his directive.

The court remanded the suspect in police custody till Oct 9.

A female cousin of the victim and her husband are already in police custody.

Initially, a case (FIR 212/13) was registered under Sections 365-B (kidnapping or inducing woman to compel for marriage, etc.) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code at the Azizabad police station. Later, Section 365-B was replaced with Section 365-A (kidnapping for extorting property, etc.) and Section 302 (premeditated murder) of the PPC and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997 were incorporated in the FIR.
