QUETTA: During Tuesday’s hearing of the Balochistan unrest case, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said evidence was available against Frontier Corps (FC) personnel in some ‘missing’ person cases, DawnNews reported.

The chief justice was heading the bench hearing the case at the Quetta Registry of the Supreme Court. The case is based on a petition filed by the Balochistan Bar Association on the law and order situation in Pakistan’s largest province.

During today’s proceedings, Chief Justice Iftikhar added that relatives of ‘missing’ persons had been claiming that the FC was involved in some of the disappearances.

He moreover demanded that Inspector-General FC Major General Shahid Ijaz should stay in the court until the recovery of the ‘missing’.

The chief justice also commented on the smuggling of drugs and weapons from across the Afghan border and inquired the Assistant Collector Preventive Amanullah Tareen regarding the usefulness of police checkpoints.

He concluded the hearing by stating that the border should be sealed in order to improve the country’s financial situation.
