LAHORE, Sept 2: All-Pakistan Aamir Hayat Khan Rokhri Badminton Ranking Tournament will be held here from Sept 9 to 15 as the Punjab Badminton Association (PBA) announced its plan of activities here on Monday.

Addressing a news conference, PBA president Aadil Abdullah Khan Rokhri said prize money of Rs200,000 would be at stake as top national players Wajid Ali and Palwasha Bashir would defend their titles in the men and women’s categories.

“Besides men and women’s singles, doubles and mixed doubles events would also be held at the ranking tournament,” he stated.

Furthermore, he added, the Punjab Inter-division Championship and Punjab Open would also be staged in Rahim Yar Khan and Jhang, respectively, in November this year.

Aadil said the PBA would also revive the National Badminton Academy from October this year.

He said his late father Aamir Hayat Khan, who rendered great services for promoting the sport, had also launched a badminton academy and he would like to restart it.

Meanwhile, acting secretary of the Pakistan Badminton Federation Tayyab hoped the Badminton World Federation (BWF) would remove the ban on its Pakistan chapter at its next council meeting to be held in November this year.

“I have dispatched all the required documents to the BWF for removing the Pakistan ban,” he said.

Due to a tussle between two rival groups within the country’s badminton fraternity, the BWF has suspended Pakistan’s membership.
