KARACHI, Aug 16: The Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST) observed the 52nd death anniversary of Baba-i-Urdu Maulvi Abdul Haq and organised a simple but impressive ceremony on its premises here on Friday.

A large number of literary figures and educationists, including Vice Chancellor of FUUAST Prof Dr Zafar Iqbal, Javed Manzar, Prof Dr Fahimuddin, Prof Nasir Abbas, Naz Siddiqui, Dr Suleman D. Mohammad, and Prof Arif Zuberi, and students participated in the ceremony to pay tribute to the father of the Urdu language.

FUUAST Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zafar Iqbal said that Muslims could make progress only when unity was developed in the Islamic world, adding that Urdu was an important language of the Islamic world.

The vice chancellor said Maulvi Abdul Haq had great love for Urdu and he worked throughout his life for its growth. “The establishment of FUUAST is the fruit of Baba-i-Urdu’s struggle,” he added.

The president of the Anjuman Taraqqi-e-Urdu Adab, Aftab Ahmed Khan, said: “Urdu is one of the greatest languages of the world and it can be among best languages, if it is given its due importance.” —PPI
