DSP among three killed in Karachi encounter

KARACHI: Three police officials, including DSP Qasim Ghauri, were killed during an encounter with armed men near Karachi's Safari Park on Thursday, local media reports said.

The encounter took place in the city's Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town during which two policemen had also been injured.

The injured policemen were shifted to a hospital for treatment.

Moreover, a local news website quoted Sindh Police spokesman, SSP East Imran Shaukat, as saying that three attackers had also been killed during the action.

The encounter came about as police launched an operation against certain accused said to be hiding in the areas of Hussain Hazara and Muhammadi Goth, the website quoted sources as saying.

Moreover, police has also sought assistance from Sindh Rangers for the operation.

Sindh police lacks appropriate skill-sets and technological tools to combat criminals who are using state of the art technology; Sindh police is a political institution, it needs to be transformed into apolitical organization. Most of the criminals are supported by political parties.Criminal from rural areas drive daily into the city, commit crimes and leave, no one is controlling the entry points into the city. The urban youth trained by the political mafia commit crimes and hide in suburbs. No one cares to formulate a strategy to go after and eliminate these thugs who have taken the city hostage. The political mafia has wasted three generations of Youth! What a shame! The new PM is just talking the talk; he must start walking the walk!

A special team like American SWAT should be formed with formidable lethal weapons use and training. When ever TTP, L-e-J or extortion mafia are cornered this team should go in with one aim, to eliminate them there and then. The public demands the end of these scum. Police is not prepared for this kind of encounters. They die needlessly due to govt incompetence in being prepared or a thought out policy.
