I just feel numb. What has become of our country when being overjoyed by rain is a cause for murder.

This story sums up everything that's wrong with Pakistan. Will the general public and lawyers (the presumed defenders of justice) throw flowers at this killer of an innocent human being too just because he was offended by their apparent dishonorable acts? (Please publish).

The men of our society are undergoing a mental breakdown. First these men abuse women (making videos in private property comes under that), then they spread nonsense about women (hey look, I captured two girls in rain) and then the 'men with honor' of the family kill them for bringing shame (how dare you get out in rain and allowed hidden strangers to make video of you from miles away).

Family honor, what family honor. Six months back they enjoyed the rain in the lawn within the confines of their house. A video was circulated by whom and for what intents and purposes is the lynchpin of the crime. Not the innocence of the women. The escapee is the real crook with the video makers and circulators. How honourable... you killed two little girls for enjoying nature. Oh and then you run away because you are honourable. Such a horrible thing to have killed to innocent lives because some desperate morons were googling over their video.....

The person who initially circulated the video, should also be held guilty because it was his mean act that lead to the murder.

Chilas has become a terror land where humans don't dare to pass by. The thirst for blood of this land(Chilas) has become a never ending phenomenon. Apart from everyday killings on tribal enmities, Honor killings, we have seen many major incidents like the Tourist killings on June 23rd. Last year 100s of passenger traveling to Gilgit were taken out of the buses, identified and gunned down by the local miscreants who operate under direct supervision of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

Very sad news, indeed. To stop such honor killing incidents it is important that courts should try such cases quickly and those responsible for murder should be hanged to death with full publicity. As long term measures, kids in schools shoud receive right education about this wrong practice.

If you are a follower of Islam then you should take time (Ramadan is coming) and read the Quran (the final world of Allah SWT). We need to confess that there are some people who have barabaric mentality, who lives in Chilas. Just one year ago, the mob of Chilasees stopped the passenger buses going to Gilgit and under very eyes of police, identifies shia passengers and killedthem brutally by hitting the passengers with rock. Regretably no one came to rescue of shia passengers and no action was taken against the culprits till now. Then we see the group of terrorists who trekked from Chilas and killed innocent foreign tourists, who were our honored guests and hence brought a bad name for Pakistan in whole world. Such an activity could not take place without the support of local elements. Now we are seeing another horrible incident. It is the need of hour to launch a cleanup operation in Chilas, so that extremist and takfeeri elements including mullahs could be flushed out.

Religion has been a huge factor in the needless deaths in society, and this story is no exception to that mindset. I really fail to see how two innocent girls playing in the rain bring dishonour to a family, to the point that they must be killed. Seems rather detrimental to enabling a society to flourish, by continuing to kill off its own members for such petty actions. Its not the first time such a gory incident has happened in Chilas. Earlier, four girls were murdered for watching their male relatives do traditional dance. Other horrific incidents include killing of shias in Babuser and Chilas, rape of a Norwegian trekker and the recent killing of 9 mountaineers. It is not even an cultural issue. People of Chilas and Kohistan follow the same sect of Islam as that of Taliban and LeJ. This sect has issued fatwas justifying such acts. You just need to google it.

I think rain should be banned too. That is the main problem in this case. A fatwa should be issued against rain immediately.

Seems like something is missing in the story. It just does not add up. It goes against normal logic. If someone distributed a home vidoe it would have been that person family should have been after and not after their own family.

@gary: It has nothing to do with religion. it is the custom of area and even non-Muslims follow these old barbaric customs. As for Hindus only upper cast Hindus follow these customs and lower casts which are mostly workers and constitute majority of the Hindus do not follow these so called customs of perceived honour as they are not suppose to have honour in Hindu customs and traditions

@Chris Simmons: Religion might be a huge factor but the bigger factor is Education! The religious mullahs can only influence the thinking of uneducated poor individuals (which unfortunately my country has in millions) and twist religion to ignite violence and intolerance against anything secular. On the other hand a huge population of Pakistan consists of intellectuals, highly learned individuals, scholars and scientists and experts in every field. They also practice Islam but at the same time are secular and tolerant and are productive members of the society. An educated Mulsim won't do something like this, an unedcuated muslim would. So it's not religion - it's education. Tribal culture of honor killing etc is not religion based, it's been passed on by their fore fathers - which you guessed it right were unfortunately illiterate. This could apply to Pakistan, India or anywhere where we have millions of poor people who are uneducated.

If this man was so ashamed of what his stepsisters did - maybe he should have taken his own life - that way he wouldn't have had to face this humility. I strongly believe he should face the most severe punishment, so that it could teach others a lesson not to even let this thought cross their mind. I cannot ever imagine any religion condoning such acts - it is the interpretation of the religion (unfortunately it is not restricted to Islam only - Christians, Jews, Hindus, etc.), that encourages these extreme views. While these uneducated population of our society will continue to practice such extreme views, I believe our justice system - which i hope is run by well-educated, smart individuals, whosel common sense allows them to distinguish right from wrong, will apply the full force of the law and teach these criminals a lesson, where no one in the future will dare consider taking such measures.

@RobotStick: What would you do if u catch your wife with another man in compromised position. You would directly divorce her or worse. You would definitely not talk to her and try to convince her otherwise. But a Muslim man is ordered to talk to his wife and try to convince her, even then if she doesn't stop then he is ordered to stop having any physical contact with her as a punishment. Even after that if she commits adultery again and he still wants to keep her as a wife then he is allowed to beat her (that too with the thinnest stick and with the weakest force) and then if she stops committing adultery then forget about this all episode and do not taunt or tease her in future. @RobotStick: Gross misstatement. Islam is the only religion which recognized rights of women to date. Also, I don't know how sick people like you relate your message to the article's content. Many of my friends have wasted zero time here to link this sad development to Religious Extremism. My request here is to please consider some points before defaming or false claiming anything. Firstly, the region mentioned here has a historic background which needs to be kept in mind before going forward. It was an important city on the Silk road along which, Buddhism was spread from South Asia to the rest of Asia. Then there were Tarkhan Dynasty, British Era, Tajiks of Xinjiang etc. So its a mix culture that has always captivated this land. But all along since that time, the environment in Gilgit has kept its own and there daily routine and life is pretty much the same as it used to be hundreds of years ago. You can call it Lack of Education or limited Religion Understanding or whatever but the truth is, in these historic places, Honor is always that comes first no matter what. I am in no way defending such irrational and horrendous activities but i am just putting their point of you which has over the years not changed a bit no matter what. Yes it is cruel and certainly not acceptable but this do exist there and we can not turn a blind eye to it. This incident has nothing to do with religion just like Rape cases in india has nothing to do with Hinduism and the horrendous School and Theatre Killings in US with Christianity. There is no verse from the Quran that the killers can quote for committing this "honour" killing. What the village Mullah could have told them is another matter.

Nobody is entitled to give punishment to anybody, there are laws which we should follow. if they find guilty they will be punished. when the stepbrother killing his sisters with the help of his friends, he should think his friends are entering his home, first he has to shoot them.
