LANDI KOTAL, May 22: Re-polling on 21 polling stations of NA-46, Khyber Agency, will be held on June 5, an official of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) told Dawn on Wednesday.

Talib Hussain, the ECP official in Peshawar, said that the re-polling would be held on 21 polling stations as advised by the returning officer for NA-46.

The said polling stations were vandalised by supporters of different candidates, while results of at least two polling stations were stolen and never returned to the returning officer.

However, the Khyber Agency election commission office in Jamrud expressed its ignorance about the fresh date for re-polling and a staff member at the office said that they were not yet notified about the re-polling date.

He also said he was not aware of any changes in the existing voters list as demanded by some candidates and later advised by the returning officer.

When contacted, returning officer Mohammad Nasir said that Jamrud was the possible venue for re-polling and Shah Kas might not be considered for this purpose.

The candidates had earlier expressed serious reservations about poor arrangements for May 11 election at Shah Kas and demanded of both the EC and political administration to arrange re-polling near Peshawar.

Meanwhile, Jamaat-i-Islami candidate Shah Faisal accused Khyber Agency election commissioner of using delaying tactics in providing election-related information to the candidates.
