LAHORE, May 20: Tehreek-i-Insaf supporters and workers on Monday staged a protest demonstration against the killing of party leader Zehra Shahid Husain in Karachi.

The protesters, carrying banners and placards bearing inscriptions against the government, held a candlelit vigil and prayed that Zehra’s soul may rest in peace.

Speaking on the occasion, PTI leaders Dr Seemi Bukhari and Saloni Bukhari said the government should arrest Zehra’s killers and give them exemplary punishment.

They also condemned harassment of PTI workers in Karachi.

Meanwhile, PTI Punjab President Ejaz Chaudhry has announced that party workers will hold protest demonstrations and sit-ins at all divisional headquarters from Tuesday (today) against rigging in the general election as well as a cold response from the Election Commission of Pakistan.

He said the PTI was demanding from the day one that the ECP should verify voters’ thumb impressions after production of rigging evidence.

The PTI workers will hold a protest demonstration outside the Lahore Press Club at 5:30pm on Tuesday (today).

PTI Lahore President Abdul Aleem Khan said the ECP had given a cold response on the appeal of re-counting in different constituencies and did not take notice of rigging.

Speaking at a Lahore chapter meeting, Aleem Khan said results of re-polling in Karachi had reflected the real position where PTI candidates had won with a clear margin. He said other parties had used all tactics to defeat the PTI and the ECP completely failed in performing its duties.

He said his party initially used its democratic right of contacting the ECP, but the poor response had compelled it to come out on roads and protest against unlawful acts that badly affected the election results.
