THIS is apropos a news item in which Nawaz Sharif promised to build a train and a motorway from Karachi to Peshawar. Projects such as the bullet train or motorway have played a vital role in boosting the economy in developed countries. But the question is: can we afford it?

Unfortunately, more than 50 per cent of our population is illiterate. The majority is unable to get clean drinking water, while getting basic health facilities is l a dream for people who live in rural areas. We are far away from an average peaceful society. Thus, instead of starting new infrastructure projects, we need to focus on our primary issues.

It is also suggested that the new government should prepare long-term and short-term policies on key issues like education, health, security, private and public-sector organisations and population growth. In this regard, all opposition parties should be in unity and every stakeholder must commit to continue the same policies.

Laptop & marginalised students SHAHBAZ Sharif has introduced laptops scheme for students. But I feel that some students are being marginalised. I am doing MPhil in Higher Education Leadership and Management from Fatima Jinnah Women University, Rawalpindi.

I am not eligible for the laptop because I am doing a job. Now my question to Shahbaz Sharif is: what about those students who work to support their education? If I need to work to pay my fees, then why I am being marginalised and not being given an opportunity?

Before making a policy, one should see that which class is affected by it. Shahbaz Sharif needs change this policy.
