RAWALPINDI, Nov 8: A man was arrested for allegedly sending an anonymous letter and making threatening telephone calls to his uncles demanding Rs5 million.

A few days back, Mohammad Naseer Khan, a timber merchant and resident of Dhoke Syedan, complained to the Saddar Barooni police that his elder brother, who also lived in his neighbourhood, found an anonymous letter at his house on October 23.

The letter asked the house owner to arrange Rs5 million otherwise his family would be eliminated.

“A few days later, my brother and I received telephone calls and the unidentified caller threatened us to blow up our family if we failed to arrange the amount,” Mr Naseer stated in his complaint. He added that he had received the latest threatening call on Wednesday.

When the station house officer, Sohail Zafar, was contacted, he said the caller was traced and arrested on Thursday. He identified the accused as Sundar Khan, a nephew of Mr Naseer.

During preliminary investigation, the accused confessed to having made threatening calls to his uncles for lust of money, said the SHO.

It may be recalled that a flourmill owner, a doctor and a family in Westridge had received such threatening letters and telephone calls a few months back.
