Man kills sister

CHAKWAL, Oct 4: A man gunned down his widowed sister in Siral village, police said here on Thursday.

S.P., who was widowed a couple of years ago and was living with her parents, was murdered by her brother, Z.I., on the suspicion of having illicit relations. Dhudial Police have registered a case and efforts to trace the accused have begun. —Correspondent

Man dies on road

CHAKWAL, Oct 4: A man was killed as a speeding car hit him near Bikhari village.

Sources said on Thursday that Ghulam Abbas was on a tractor when a car hit him, resulting in his death on the spot. Later a patch up was made between the driver and elders of the family of the deceased. —Correspondent

‘Follow traffic rules for safety’

TAXILA, Oct 4: City Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Ishtiaq Hussain Shah has said all traffic issues can be resolved by observing rules which are for the safety and protection of the road users.

He was speaking in an open court of traffic wardens at the community centre here on Thursday. Representatives from different walks of life, including traders, public representatives, local leaders of different political parties, office-bearers of traders’ unions and transporters attended the meeting. The CTO said civilised nations always observed traffic rules. The citizens should have knowledge about road safety and traffic rules and should observe them. He said traffic load on city roads was increasing day by day as a large number of new vehicles were being registered. —Correspondent

Journalist’s murder condemned

ATTOCK, Oct 4: Journalists and civil society activists staged a peaceful protest here on Thursday to condemn the murder of a journalist in Khuzadar, Balochistan.

The protesters rallied to denounce the murder of Abdul Haq Baloch, who worked for a private TV channel and was shot last Saturday by unknown assailants.

The rally started from Fowara chowk and reached Attock Press Club after passing through the main bazaar and Kutchery chowk. The participants carried placards and chanted slogans against the government for its failure to protect the life of journalists.

The demanded the government to take notice of Mr Baloch’s murder, as the prevailing conditions had created unrest in the entire journalist community. —Correspondent

Waziristan rally

TAXILA, Oct 4: Former Federal Minister and local leader of the Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) Ghulam Sarwar Khan on Thursday said all arrangements have been made to make the peace rally to South Waziristan a success.

Talking to the press after a party meeting held to discuss the arrangements here, he said the entire world’s eyes were focused on the rally. He said the peace march would give a strong message to the world that a vast majority of the people in Waziristan were peaceful and they do not support terrorists.

He said Imran Khan’s stance on the war on terror and military operations in the tribal areas was well-known to everyone.—Correspondent
