KARACHI, Sept 24: Four brothers said to be workers of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) were gunned down here on Monday night.

Police said three to four assailants on two motorcycles opened fire on a car with the brothers near Disco Mor in North Karachi. Police found several bullet casings of 9mm pistol at the place.

The four suffered multiple gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead when brought to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

A fifth man said to be a passerby was injured by the firing. He was said to be in a stable condition.

“The four victims are brothers. According to initial reports, they did not belong to Sipah-i-Sahaba but were of the Deobandi sect,” Additional Inspector General Iqbal Mehmood said.

ASWJ spokesman Maulana Taj Hanifi said the four brothers were activists of his organisation. Police said that the brothers were running a coaching centre on Abul Hasan Ispahani Road.

A large number of ASWJ workers went to the hospital after the shooting.

The victims were identified as Syed Mouid, Syed Muqeem, Abdul Fahid and Abdul Waheed, hospital sources said.
