Enmity claims two lives

KOHAT, Jan 8: An old enmity between rival families claimed the lives of two cousins in Sheraki village of semi tribal region of Darra Adam Khel on Sunday.

The political administration said two cousins, Walayat Shah and Alif Shah, were present in the Khwaja Tangi area of Sheraki when Shayaz allegedly opened fire at them. They died instantly and their bodies were shifted to local hospital for autopsy.

The political administration lodged the report for their record and was waiting for the family members of the deceased to take further action in the case.

Normally such cases in the area are solved by taking revenge or through holding jirga with the assistance of the administration.—Correspondent

Timber smuggling

MANSEHRA, Jan 8: The people of different areas of Oghi have demanded of IGP Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to redeploy the elite force in remote areas of Oghi to bring crime and timber smuggling to an end.

“Following the withdrawal of elite force the crime and timber smuggling have risen and if the force is not deployed back in the area deforestation will gain pace,” said Alamzeb Khan, a local.

Speaking at a press conference in Oghi Mr Khan, Malik Rafique, Mohammad Aslam Tanoli, Azizullah and others said after the deployment of the elite force in Karori area the crime and timber smuggling had come to an end.

“It is unfortunate that influential people are on the back of the timber smugglers and outlaws and got the elite force expelled from the area,” said Mohammad Aslam.

They said the issue was taken with DIG and local lawmakers but to no effect.—Correspondent

Body recovered

PESHAWAR, Jan 8: Police on Sunday recovered body of a man at Kushan Gar area in the limits of Mattani police station.

The man was identified as Abdul Wahab, son of Rais Gul of the Hangu district. Police said Abdul Wahab had been killed after severe torture as his body bore torture marks.

The body was shifted to his native town, police said, adding the relatives of the victim had yet not mentioned name of any person in the FIR.—Bureau Report

English literary event

PESHAWAR, Jan 8: The annual English literary event of the College of Home Economics, University of Peshawar, was held on the college premises. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Social Welfare and Women Development Sitara Ayaz was the chief guest.

Excellent skills providing an innovative and entertaining show, including an extempore debate on ‘social networking’ followed by a spectacular replication of William Shakespeare’s play Twelfth Night were part of the function.

The waltz and models representing dress trends of English literary era beginning from the Middle Ages to the modern trends thrilled the audience. The audience and students equally enjoyed the English singing and spelling competitions.

Ms Sitara Ayaz and principal of the college Dr Ghazala Nizam appreciated the performances of the students. They praised their efforts and hoped that it would have positive effects on their practical life.

Prizes were distributed among the students displaying extraordinary skills.—Bureau Report

Schools’ upgradation

PESHAWAR, Jan 8: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information Technology Mohammad Ayub Khan on Sunday inaugurated work on upgradation of government high school Sakhara Matta, in Swat to higher secondary school costing Rs17.6 million.

THE minister also inaugurated upgradation work of government girls middle school Sakhara Matta to high school costing Rs7.4 million.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said the government accorded high priority to education sector and was spending billions of rupees in this regard.

He said the schools damaged during flood and militancy were being rebuilt on scientific lines.—APP

Road project approved

PESHAWAR, Jan 8: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Finance Engr Hamayun Khan announced approval of Palai-Dargai road that would be completed with a cost of Rs85 million to provide better communication facilities to motorists.

Addressing a public meeting at Bazdara Payan, the minister also announced Rs10 million additional grant for a flood protection project. He said PPP government believed in practical work and not in hollow slogans.

He said after construction of Swabi-Malakand-Palai expressway, the area would be converted into an industrial zone.

He said most of the projects approved in the ADP had been completed.—APP

Provision of gas

PESHAWAR, Jan 8: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Speaker Kiramatullah Khan Chagharmati said on Sunday that the provision of gas to KP-7 constituency was underway with a cost of Rs2 billion.

Talking to a delegation from Chagarmati village, the speaker said that Rs270 million was being spent in first phase of construction of Pirbala-Sufaidsung road that will reduce distance between Peshawar and the area.

He said developmental projects worth billions of rupees in education, communication, health and electricity sectors had been initiated to address the problems of masses.

He said special focus had been given on installation of new transformers and replacement of old transmission lines for smooth flow of electricity.—APP

Peace vital for Fata uplift

PARACHINAR, Jan 8: A tribal jirga of Para Chamkani tribesmen has announced unwavering support to the government for establishing durable peace and development of Fata in general and Kurram Agency in particular. The jirga termed government's reforms in tribal areas as reflection of people's aspirations.

The jirga of Para Chamkani tribesmen chaired by Malik Nasrullah Khan Chamkani was held at Sewak in central Kurram Agency attended by 300 tribesmen and tribal elders.

Speaking on the occasion, Malik Nasrullah Khan said the recent reforms in FCR and extension of Political Parties Act to Fata was a great step towards socio-economic uplift of tribal people and will remove their long suffering.

He said peace was vital for progress and development and assured full support to government in this regard.

The jirga vowed not to compromise on peace and interfaith harmony and urged the tribesmen to stand united for their rights.—APP
