Man shot dead

NOWSHERA, Dec 12: A man was killed allegedly over a property dispute near Aman Garh here on Monday.

Police said Baz Mohammad Khan, resident of Khat Kalay, was shot dead allegedly by his rival over a dispute on the ownership of some property. Relatives of the victim nominated Nasir, resident of Amangarh, in the FIR lodged with the Azakhel police station.Meanwhile, a minor child was killed while his brother sustained serious injuries when a pick-up van ran over them at Khat Kalay.

An eyewitness said the van hit the two brothers, Sudais, 3, and his brother Waqas, 8, when they were playing at the roadside.

They were seriously injured and were shifted to hospital, where Sudais died. Doctors referred Waqas to Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar in precarious condition. The eyewitness said the van driver escaped from the area.—Correspondent

Nurses hold protest

PESHAWAR, Dec 12: The nursing staff of Lady Reading Hospital observed two hours boycott of their duties and took out a protest rally for acceptance of their demands on Monday.

The nurses led by their president Farrukh Jalil held a meeting outside the administration block and demanded of the government to give them professional allowance. They said that the government had given all facilities to the doctors and raised their salaries but the nursing staff had been ignored.

Holding banners and placards they also took out a procession and chanted slogans in favour of their demands.—Bureau Report

PTI expels two leaders

NOWSHERA, Dec 12: Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf, Nowshera chapter, has expelled two local leaders on charges of trying to create disturbance before a scheduled press conference of the party in Islamabad on Monday.

PTI Nowshera president Riasat Sarhadi, while talking to Dawn, said the action against the two local leaders, Sajid Gumrani and Seema Aurangzeb, was taken on the advice of PTI chairman Imran Khan.

Mr Sarhadi said Nowshera chapter vice-president Sajid Gumrani and Seema Aurangzeb were no longer associated with the party because they tried to sabotage the PTI press conference where Khyber Pakhtunkhwa minister for irrigation Prevez Khattak was scheduled to announce joining the party.—Correspondent

Inquiry ordered

KOHAT, Dec 12: The DIG, Kohat region ordered inquiry into attack at houses of members of a peace committee of Muhammadzai by armed men, during a visit of the area on Monday.

The DIG, Mohammad Masood Afridi, visited the damaged houses and met with the members of the local peace committee. He ordered establishing three police checkposts in the area for safety of the people from the criminals of the so-called Muhammadzai welfare committee. The posts would be established in Ublan, Jawaki and near Muhammadzai.Two days back armed men from Jawaki had attacked and looted the house of Haq Nawaz, member of the Muhammadzai peace committee, after killing a young boy.—Correspondent

More provinces

MANSEHRA, Dec 12: The government has been taking masseurs to create more provinces, says Syed Qasim Shah, special advisor to prime minister, while speaking at a press conference in Balakot on Monday.

Mr Shah said following the movement for Hazara province almost all political and religious parties had agreed on creation of more provinces.

He said people of Hazara would hear good news about creation of Hazara province.

Qasim Shah said the Suki Kanari hydropower project would generate employment opportunities for the people of Kaghan valley.

He said hurdles in the way of timely completion of the New Balakot City would be removed.—Correspondent

Blind cricketers seek jobs

PESHAWAR, Dec 12: Blind cricket association, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has demanded increase in seats in the educational institutions and provision of jobs.

Speaking at a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Monday the association’s general secretary Habibullah said blind cricket had been started in Peshawar in 1986 while in 1998 a national level team was established, which in short time won two world cups. He said the aim of the association was to utilise potential of the disabled people at the national and international levels.

Mr Habibullah said the blind cricketers had no jobs and facilities like playgrounds. He demanded of the chief Minister to set up a major cricket ground for blind cricketers.—Bureau Report
