KHAR, Sept 12: Two houses were partially damaged when suspected militants fired rockets and missiles at an area near Pakistan-Afghan border in Salarzai tehsil of Bajaur Agency on Monday morning.

Locals said that suspected militants fired several rockets and missiles on Lattai and damaged two houses partially. However, the inmates escaped unhurt.

They said that suspected militants also targeted a security checkpost but missed it. The shells, fired by militants, landed in open area near the post, they said.

Officials said that security forces and volunteers of tribal lashkar retaliated and forced the attacker to flee.

Meanwhile, Salarazai tribe decided during a jirga to extend patrol of volunteers to border areas and set up peace committees in each village.

They also urged government and security forces to set up more checkposts and deploy additional personnel to maintain law and order in the region.

Political Agent Mohammad Jamial, officers of security forces and officials of political administration were present on the occasion.

The jirga was also attended by a large number of tribal elders, Malaks and notables.

Meanwhile, security forces continued a search operation against militants in different areas of Baizai tehsil of Mohmand tribal region on Monday.

Officials said that security forces gained control of Baidmani area and set up checkposts there.

They said that security forces had made advance in the area.

Officials said that peace committees were backing security forces against militants. They said that 30 improvised explosive devices were defused in different localities during the operation.

Officials said that security forces also launched search operation in Qandaharo and Gharai areas of Safi tehsil.

In Swat district, police arrested two suspected militants during a search operation in Koza Bandai and Amankot areas on Monday.

Officials said that police raided militant hideouts on a tip-off and arrested Rahimullah alias Baba, a militant commander, and Abdullah.

They were shifted to an unspecified location for interrogation.
