PESHAWAR: The Awami National Party has ended the boycott of Sindh government and asked its two lawmakers, including one minister, to resume their official activities. A meeting of the party’s think-tank with ANP president Asfandyar Wali Khan in the chair decided that it would try its best to establish peace in the province of Sindh and elsewhere in the country.

The meeting resolved that the ANP in pursuit of the non-violence philosophy of Bacha Khan would help the government in maintaining much-needed peace in the violence-wracked city of Karachi.

ANP general secretary Ihsan Wayne, provincial president Senator Afrasiab Khattak, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ameer Haidar Khan Hoti, Senator Zahid Khan, Senator Mohammad Adeel, Senior Minister Bashir Ahmed Bilour, Hashim Babar and MNA Bushra Gohar attended the meeting.

The meeting expressed the hope that the party’s reservation about appointment of commissioners would be considered by the government.

In a resolution adopted unanimously, the party asked the Sindh government to swing into action against target killers and provide safety to Pakhtuns in Sindh, who it said, were being mercilessly killed by terrorists.

The meeting said the reinstatement of commissioner system would prove landmark as far as maintenance of peace in the entire country was concerned.

In another resolution, the party said it was an integral part of the coalition governments in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh and at the Centre with the Pakistan People’s Party and would play active role for peace in the country.

It also hoped that concrete steps would be undertaken by the government to purge the city of Karachi from target killers, extortionists and criminals and facilitate smooth-sailing of trade and other routine activities in the interest of the country.

“We hope that the ANP’s reservation about the Sindh situation will be addressed at the earliest,” the meeting said.
