PESHAWAR, Aug 1: The Peshawar High Court on Monday granted bail to a person charged with smuggling heroin, which was concealed in a truck carrying timber.

A single-bench comprising Justice Dost Mohammad Khan allowed bail petition filed by the suspect, Anwer Jawed, a resident of Swabi, and directed him to furnish two sureties of Rs400,000 each.

The prime suspect in the case, Islam Hussain, who was driver of the truck, has been behind the bars.

The accused were arrested by Sarband police on April 7, 2011.

The police claimed they had prior information that some smugglers would smuggle contraband through a truck following which they cordoned off the main road. The police claimed recovering 45kg heroin concealed in timber loaded in the truck.
