RAWALPINDI, July 19: Special Judge Central on Tuesday extended the interim bail of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MNA Anjum Aqeel Khan till July 25 in Rs6 billion land scam of National Police Foundation (NPF).

Besides this, there are two more case – a land dispute with a schoolteacher and escape from police custody -- against the PML-N legislator in which he will remain in police custody.

The bail of other accused, Deputy Director of National Police Foundation (NPF) and former Deputy Inspector General Laique Ahmed, were also extended till July 25.

At present, Anjum Aqeel is in the custody of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) who was also investigating his involvement in NPF land scam after the suo motu action taken by the Supreme Court.

The three-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry in its order on a suo motu case on June 21, directed the managing director of the foundation to initiate action against the culprits after the NPF inquiry committee had established irregularities and corruption in purchase of land.

On Tuesday, Judge Syed Ikhlaq Ahmed Shah also directed the FIA to present the accused before court along with charge sheet on the next date of hearing.

Defence counsel Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui Advocate on Tuesday requested the court to give him some time to prepare for the case as he came to the court unprepared due to time shortage.

Upon this, the judge, Syed Ikhlaq Ahmed Shah, extended the interim bails of PML-N MNA Anjum Aqeel Khan and the other co-accused till July 25.

While talking to newsmen, Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui said that the investigating agency did not give real picture of the case and he sought time to go through the case thoroughly.

“We will also file contempt of court plea soon as the police disobeyed the court orders regarding bringing Anjum to hospital for his medical check-up,” he said. —A Reporter
