ISLAMABAD, April 12: The two students involved in impersonation in the SSC part-II examination were arrested by the Shahzad Town police here on Tuesday.

Later, both the students were produced in the court which released them on bail against Rs50,00 surety.

Earlier, the FBISE vigilance team came to inspect the examination centre established at the Government High School, Kuri City and to verify the candidature of the students appearing in the English compulsory paper.

During inspection, the team asked a candidate to produce his exam admit card for verification.

Although the candidate showed the card, he acted suspiciously. The inspection team on his mysterious behaviour became doubtful.

They sent for the copy of the admit card from the school record and compared it with the candidate’s card which was found forged as he had pasted his photograph in place of the actual candidate. Moreover, the card provided by the candidate had also many minor differences from the original card including colour combination and FBISE monogram.

On inquiry, the student disclosed that he appeared in the exam on behalf of his friend Sohail Yasin, resident of Tarlai and introduced him as Arsalan Khalid, resident of Barma Town and student of a senior class.

At this, the Shahzad Town police were informed, which arrived and succeeded in tracing Sohail Yasin from outside the examination centre.

Both were taken into custody and later shifted to the police station for further legal action. A case of impersonation was registered against both of them.

When contacted, an educationist said that mostly the board inquiry committee conducted investigation in such cases and the accused was also provided an opportunity to defend him. If the accused failed to prove his innocence, the committee awarded him punishment which might be the cancellation of the higher certificate of the impersonator while the candidature of the actual student was cancelled and he was banned to appear in the exam for three years, he said.

He said that the inquiry committee also determined whether any of the invigilation staff was involved in the wrongdoing or not and from where the forged admit card had been obtained.

He said in routine practice, the candidates were asked to show their admit cards while entering into the examination centre but this practice was not strictly followed and the examiners checked the cards occasionally therefore, the impersonation was on the rise in the exams, he added.
