JHANG, Feb 23: Three unidentified people shot at and injured a Wapda union leader outside his house on Sargodha Road late on Tuesday. Jhang Kotwali police sources said Wapda Hydro Labour Union Central Vice-President Rai Hakim Ali Sangra suffered bullet wounds on legs and upper thigh when three motorcyclists opened fire on him. He was rushed to Jhang District Headquarters Hospital to be referred to Allied Hospital, Faisalabad, for his critical wounds.

HELD: Jhang City police allegedly put the complainant of a case behind bars for his refusal to reconcile with the accused.

Mansabdar, of Basti Abdullahpur, alleges that on Nov 14, 2010, Arif and five others broke into his house and beat him and his sister, Sattaan Bibi, inflicting him head injuries and fracturing his sister's arm. The intruders took away households worth Rs10,000.

They also threatened Mansabdar with consequences if he reported the matter to the police.

Mansabdar approached the police with medico-legal certificates, but ASI Mubashar registered a case after getting a Rs21,500 bribe from him. The police demanded more money to arrest the accused.

He says SHO Wajid Bharwana called both the complainant and the accused to the police station and asked him to compromise with the accused. Upon his refusal to do so, the investigating officer put Mansabdar in the lockup where he remained for eight hours. He was released after greasing the palms of a constable.
