JAC on killings

LAHORE, Feb 10: A multi-party conference held here on Thursday decided to form a joint action committee to seek justice for the families of three youths killed by US consulate employees two weeks ago.

The committee will announce its future line of action on Friday (today) as both the ruling parties, the PPP and the PML-N, stayed away from the event organised by the Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf (PTI).

However, representatives of the PML-Q, Jamaat-i-Islami, JUI-F, Sunni Tehrik, Khaksar Tehrik, Pakistan Muttahida Mahaz and other smaller groups were in attendance.

Those who spoke on the occasion declared the participants were concerned at the grave political and economic situation of the country which was facing a threat to its solidarity and sovereignty.

They said the government was under international pressure on the issues of killings by US ‘spy’ Raymond Davis and drone attacks.

The MPC expressed its anger at the uncalled for death of Fahim, Faizan and Obaidur Rehman and observed the suicide by Fahim’s widow manifested the distrust the masses were having in the country’s judicial system.

It called for unity among the people to counter the international ‘terror’ organisations like BlackWater and DynCorp that were active in the country.

It demanded both the federal and Punjab governments shun US pressure in Davis case and provide justice to the aggrieved families. It also sought financial aid for the heirs to the victims.

The MPC was chaired by Mahmoodur Rashid and attended by Ijaz Chaudhry, Amirul Azeem, Yousaf Ahad Malik, Dr Atif, Rana Ayub, Qari Sanaullah, Tahir Doga, Ayub Meo and others.
