MARDAN, Jan 30: Militants targeted the house of an official of Peshawar Central Jail at Shabaz Gari village here on early Sunday morning.

Liaqat Khan, an assistant sub-inspector at Peshawar jail, was present in his home when militants tried to blow it up with explosive devices. The house was partially damaged in the incident.

Mr Khan, who has come home on vacations, said that he was asleep like other members of his family when the explosive devices went off. The southern boundary wall of the house was completely destroyed while some rooms were partially damaged in the incident.

“I was asleep at the time of incident, however, we all remained unhurt,” Mr Khan said. He had taken part in an operation against jailed militants when a clash erupted in Peshawar prison three days ago. He said that militants were angry with him because he had taken part in baton-charging them.

He lodged an FIR with Shahbaz Gari police station. He told police that he was threatened by a militant identified Nigar, a resident of Gari Kapoora village in Mardan, when he along with other jail officials charged them with batons. —Correspondent
