KARACHI, Jan 9: The body of a 16-year-old boy was found in a drain within the remit of the Mehmoodabad police station on Sunday, police said. A duty officer at the police station said that the victim, identified as Waqas, son of Pervaiz Safdar, was found shot dead in Kashmir Colony Nullah. Following the recovery, the police shifted the body to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a post-mortem examination.

Tension gripped the area following the recovery of the body and area people staged a protest against the incident.

The parents of the victim claimed that their son had gone with a policeman.

SSP Amir Farooqui told Dawn that the boy was shot twice. He said that on Saturday night Waqas had gone out with Amir Butt, a police constable, quoting his father as saying.

“We have arrested the police constable who is posted at the Baghdadi police station in Lyari Town,” the SSP said.

The suspect during initial investigation told the police that he was drunk when he fired the shots, the police said.

However, the angle of the entry and exit of the bullets in the body did seem to corroborate his statement, said the senior officer.

The police said that they were investigating the case.
