SWABI, Nov 25: Police claimed here on Thursday to have recovered an abducted child and arrested three kidnappers during a raid.

Shahyan Haris, a five-and-half-year-old child, was kidnapped from his village Jhanda on Nov 14 when he was playing with other children in front of his house.

His father Abdul Qadeer, a poultry trader, told this correspondent by phone that they registered an FIR with police but at the same time they continued to search for his son. He said that they were also waiting for the demand of ransom from the kidnappers. However, they didn't receive any such demand, he added.

An official said that the kidnappers wanted to shift the child to tribal region but they failed to materialise their plan. He said that police raided a house on a tip off in the mountainous region of Qadra and recovered the child at 1am. “Police informed us at 1:50am that the child had been recovered and they were on their way to hand him over to us,” said Abdul Waheed, a maternal uncle of the child.

Sources said that the vehicle used in the kidnapping of child was also seized by police. However, officials did not disclose the names of the three arrested kidnappers.

Meanwhile, police failed to get any clue to whereabouts of Arsalan, a 15-year-old boy, who kidnapped from Zaida on Nov 13. According to sources kidnappers have demanded huge ransom for his release but the deal has not been finalised.

RECRUITMENT: About 1500 candidates have applied for 30 vacant posts in police department, according to sources.

The number of educated applicants unveils the ratio of unemployment in the district.

The candidates will have to first take part in a race on Dec 1. Those, who qualify the race, will appear in written test and interview. Sources said that job-seekers already passed physical fitness tests.— Correspondent
