KARACHI: Contempt notice issued against EDO
KARACHI, Sept 3: A contempt-of-court notice was issued against the executive district officer (EDO) of the city government’s revenue department for Sept 19 by a division bench of the Sindh High Court comprising Justice Munib Ahmed Khan and Justice Dr Rana M. Shamim here on Wednesday.
The order came in a contempt of court application filed by Abrar Hasan, a displaced resident of a katchi abadi in Gulshan-i-Iqbal and affected person of the Lyari expressway project. The petitioner maintained that a bench of the SHC, deciding a constitutional petition, had ordered payment of compensation to him but the respondents were denying him the payment.
The bench after hearing the counsel for the applicant issued a contempt-of-court notice to the EDO Revenue for Sept 19.
Petition for salary
A division bench of the SHC, comprising Justices Khilji Arif Hussain and Bin Yamin, on Wednesday issued notices to respondents, including the inspector-general of prisons, Sindh, in a petition filed by the computer operators hired for imparting computer skills to prisoners.
The petitioners, Irshad Hussain and 24 others, maintained that they had not been paid salaries for a year and thus they were facing financial hardship.
A bench of the SHC earlier in a petition restrained the government from sacking the petitioners.
The bench, after hearing the counsel for the petitioners, also sought comments from the respondents while putting off further proceedings to a date to be fixed later by the office of the court.—APP
