KARACHI: Hoax bomb call

Published May 4, 2008

KARACHI, May 3: Panic gripped people at the old terminal of the Karachi airport on Saturday after an anonymous caller claimed that a bomb was planted behind the PIA head office, polices said.

The call was received by the Haroon Security, a duty officer at Airport police station said.

The PIA authorities immediately informed the police and a team of the bomb disposal squad (BDS) along with a police team rushed to the terminal.

The entire area specified by the caller was evacuated and search for the bomb was launched. However, after the one-hour search operation, the BDS issued a clearance certificate as no explosive material was found.

This was the sixth bomb hoax call made during the past 17 days to spread panic and fear at different public places in the city.—PPI
