KARACHI: Munir Malik wins Gwangju award

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, April 18: Former president of the Supreme

Court Bar Association (SCBA) Muneer A. Malik has been selected as the winner of this year’s Gwangju Prize for Human Rights for playing a leading role in the struggle of lawyers, judges and the rest of the citizens of Pakistan for the independence of the judiciary.

The award, which includes a gold medal, a certificate of achievement and a cash prize of $50,000, will be conferred on Mr Malik at a ceremony to be held on May 18 to mark the “May 18 Gwangju Democratic Uprising”.

The award is administered by the May 18 Foundation, a non-profit organisation established on Aug 30, 1994 by the surviving victims of the 1980 Gwangju (South Korea) democratic uprising, the victims’ families and citizens of Gwangju.—PPI
