KARACHI, April 13: One of the controversial police officials of the Karachi operation, Rao Anwar, was posted back in the city on Sunday.

His services were transferred to Sindh from Balochistan, where he was posted in Quetta. For a brief period he also worked as a station officer of Hub before being promoted as DSP.

Sources in the police department told Dawn that in the coming days DSP Rao Anwar is likely to replace the SP Keamari after being promoted to the rank of SP.

DSP Anwar was among the police officers who became controversial due to their alleged involvement in extra-judicial killings during the ‘90s.

During the Karachi operation, DSP Anwar was among the few officers who directly reported to the then interior minister Naseerullah Babar.

The Muttahida Quami Movement on Sunday expressed its reservations about the appointment of Dr Shoaib Suddle as provincial police chief.
