KARACHI, April 4: The Karachi Building Control Authority (KBCA), along with the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB), has cut off water and sewage lines of 62 buildings found without fire-fighting equipment.

According to the KBCA, out of the 62 buildings, 32 were located in Gulshan Town and 30 in Jamshed Town. Many flats currently in possession of builders were sealed on the same ground.

It has been made mandatory upon builders and owners of buildings to ensure availability of fire-fighting equipment to avoid heavy a loss of life and property in the event of a fire. The decision had been taken by the city government in view of the repeated incidents of fire in the city’s residential, commercial and industrial areas in recent months.

The city government had asked the KBCA to take action against the owners or builders of the buildings found without fire-fighting equipment.

The KBCA has now extended the campaign to Saddar Town, and appealed to people to extend their cooperation by asking the owners/builders concerned for such equipment before getting possession of any property.
