KARACHI, Dec 3: The Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) unions’ action committee on Monday rejected the voluntarily separation scheme (VSS) package 2007 and urged President Pervez Musharraf to play his role in the withdrawal of the scheme.

The central member of the committee, M. Latif Qureshi, said that we have had discussed in detail the contents and financial benefits of the proposed VSS package and unanimously rejected the scheme and passed a resolution.

The resolution called for an immediate withdrawal of the VSS package 2007, pension and commutation for all employees including those having less than 20 years of service as given in VSS package 1998 and 2005, 360 days leave encashment for each employee instead of 96 and 180 days, medical facility be made optional (one time cash payment of Rs0.5 million or lifetime medical facility as per the existing rules) for all employees having less than 20 years of service and length of service to be counted from the date of appointment instead of completion of training.

“Severance allowance to be calculated under the same formula, which was adopted in 1998 and 2005 packages, employees’ quota of company’s 10 per cent share should be given before separation and convene meeting of all the registered trade unions of the PTCL and take them into confidence,” it added.

The members of the action committee also condemned the remarks like not needed, redundant, and surplus, which according to them, were being used for the workers by the PTCL management.
