DAG resigns in protest

By Our Reporter

LAHORE, Nov 8: Deputy Attorney-General Asad Munir has resigned in protest against removal of superior court judges after the imposition of emergency. “In view of the removal of judges of the Supreme Court and high courts after the imposition of emergency and the ruthless police crackdown on lawyers, particularly in the Lahore High Court’s Lahore premises, it is not possible for me to continue to represent the federation,” he said.

“I may state that I have never been associated with any political party and have always acted as a professional lawyer committed to uphold the dignity of this noble calling. However, my conscience does not allow me to support actions which undermine and negate the institution of the judiciary and the rule of law,” he added.

The DAG has sent his resignation to the president through the secretary of the Law, Justice and Human Rights division.
