KARACHI : Computerised books for vehicles


KARACHI, Oct 3: Sindh Minister for Excise and Taxation Shabbir Ahmed Qaimkhani has said that new machine-readable motor-vehicle registration books would be issued to from January 2008.

During a meeting with officials of the Pakistan Security Printing Corporation (PSPC) here on Wednesday, he said that the purpose of computerizing the document was to eliminate all kinds of malpractices in vehicle registration process.

The minister said that the PSPC had been providing the motor-vehicle registration books to the department since 1999 but now it should take measures to improve the security features of the document keeping in view the government aim.

The officials informed him that security paper, to be used in the book, would be one of the new security features to be introduced by the PSPC in the computerised document.

Secretary Excise and Taxation Naseer Jamali, DG E&T Asif Marghoob Siddiqui, Director Motor-vehicle Registration Shoaib Siddiqui, Deputy General Manager PSPC Naved Ahmed Khowaja and Manager Sales M.S. Khokhar were among the officials present on the occasion.

The minister was shown the design and quality of the machine-readable motor-vehicle registration book and security features.

He appreciated and approved the sample and told the PSPC officials that he would visit the press to see the printing process.—PPI
